Antenor, escaping from Troy, reached Timavo mouth in the Upper Adriatic sea near Trieste, and settled in Veneto region founding Padua. He brought from the East Pucinum, a precious red grape, used to make a wine that cheered the tables of the ancient Romans in Aquileia. Pucinum is the ancestor of Refosco, the oldest indigenous wine of Friuli.
Characteristic of Friuli Riviera, Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso owes its name to a particularity of the cluster, or rather, of its peduncle. Early, at the end of August, this peduncle begins to take a reddish color, anticipating the strong accumulation of color in the fruit berries when ripe.
It is the “young and friendly” wine of Casa Foffani; its light and disengaged drink remains however balanced like all the other wines. Refosco loves laid tables and cheerful companies. Its freshness is a real ace catcher. A wine with a high rate of terroir, naturally different from the roaring Refoscos from the hills. An harmonious product, son of that biodiversity that we care so much about, thanks to our short and direct supply chain 100% controlled.
